Walter R. “Rollin” Orr, 105, of Bethalto, IL, passed away at 6:22 a.m. Sat. Nov. 4, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 8, 1912 in Indianapolis, IN to the late John E. & Lulu J. (Stein) Orr.

He married Mildred Louise Long July 5, 1939.  They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary before her passing on Aug. 2, 2014.

Rollin had been a Supervisor in the wire mill at Laclede Steel, retiring in 1977 after 42 ½ years of service.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of East Alton and had attended First Baptist Church of Bethalto and was a 50 plus year member of the Wood River Moose.  Rollin enjoyed playing golf, croquet, cards and traveling.  He was also an enthusiastic St. Louis Cardinal fan and loved spending time with his family, nieces and nephews.  His last four years of his life he also enjoyed being a resident at Villa Rose Senior Living in Bethalto.

Survivors include a daughter: Sharon K. Korando of Wood River, IL; a son: John E. (Valerie) Orr of Dallas, TX; 14 grandchildren: Lynda Tite, Jeff Korando, Greg Korando, Chris Korando, Cathie Wells, Sherry Parks, Kevin Orr, Jennifer Orr, Morgan Orr, Jacob Orr, Randy Korando, Robin Woodson, Elliott Eitzmann and James Eitzmann; 20 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Mary (Ned) Orr Wells of Bethalto.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Ronald D. Orr; 2 sons-in-law: Elbert Pitchford and Bud Korando; and 3 brothers: Eldon R. Orr, Marion L. Orr and Warren E. Orr.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Noon on Thurs. Nov. 9, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Bethalto with Pastor Stan Hunt officiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or First Baptist Church of Bethalto.
