James Frank Russell, 87, passed away at 8:01 pm Tuesday September 19, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.

 

He was born on October 11, 1929 in Honey Grove, TX the son of George & Sally (Belle) Russell.

James worked for the Bricklayer Union Local 8 since 1951 and  also personally built four brick homes for his family.

He loved golfing and shot a hole-in-one at Arlington Golf Course in Granite City.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan, and was a good athlete and enjoyed diving.

James is survived by three children, Lana (Richard) Jennett of Pacific, MO, J.R. Russell (Susie) Russell of Centennial, CO, Debbie (Keith) St. Cin of Godfrey; grandchildren, Alice Jennett, Dr. Annie (Brian) Spinneweber, Sarah Jennett, Matt (Karen) Ebbeler, Paul & Marcie Ebbeler, Jon Russell, Greg (Rachel) Russell, Willie (Jill) Russell, John Durrwachter; and one sister – Geraldine Heiser of Bethalto.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Denise Russell, two infant twin sons, James & John Russell.

Cremation rites will be accorded and graveside services will be held at a later date at Upper Alton Cemetery.
