William R. “Bill” Taul, Sr., age 87 of Alton, Illinois passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017, 11:18 am at University Health Care Center in Edwardsville.He was born on October 13, 1929 in Alton and was the son of the late Theodore Francis and Gertrude (nee: Baker) Taul.He married Rosalie Pavish on May 7, 1960 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton and she preceded him in death on September 29, 2007.He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later worked many years at ConAgra in Alton until retiring. In his younger days he enjoyed playing baseball in the minor league of the Pittsburgh Pirates.  He volunteered and assisted with Bucket Brigade / Pride, Inc., worked part-time at Macy’s and Rock Springs Golf Course, enjoyed bowling, golfing, and spending time with his family.Survivors include his children:Bill (Jennifer Campbell) Taul of Alton,Ed (Gabe) Taul of Clayton, MissouriMary (Chris) Beiser of Alton,Kathy (Bill) Chambers of Des Peres, Missouri,Todd (Donna) Taul of Godfrey,Matt (Mary Lou) Taul of Godfrey,His Siblings: Harold (Shirley) Taul of Tallahassee, Florida, Marlene Mattingly of Carlinville, IllinoisRosemary Matifes of GodfreyTerry (Cathy) Taul of Kampsville, Illinois,14 grandchildren, Shelby Waters, Alex Taul, Jack Taul, Nick Beiser, Andrew (Sarah) Beiser, Ashley (Zach) Righter, Liz Beiser, Lauren Maurutto, Rob Taul, Brad Taul, Max Taul, Leo Taul, Angelina Taul, and Lydia Taul, his dear friend: Patricia Little of Alton, many nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends.In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his siblings; Francis Taul, Martha Davey and Donald Taul.Visitation will be Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton from 9:00 am until time of a Memorial Mass at 11:00 am with Father Jason Stone as the Celebrant.Memorials may be made to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton or to Pride, Inc.STATEN-FINE Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.An online tribute and condolences may be found at http://www.staten-fine.com/
