Joel Cedric Oliver died June 27, 2017 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He was born March 15, 1969 in Alton, IL to Florence S. Oliver and the late Reverend John C. Oliver Sr. At an early age, Cedric professed his belief in Christ and was baptized at Union Baptist Church, a church pastored by his father. This love of music stayed with him throughout his life, as he was a faithful musician and member of Oakwood Church of God in ChristCedric was educated in the Alton public school system, graduating from Alton Senior Hig h School in 1987 with an Automotive Certificate and High School Diploma. Later, he matriculated to Southern Illinois University where he obtained his Associates Degree in Psychology. In 1991, Cedric pursued and received his Commercial Drivers License (CDL). He became an Independent Owner and Operator and drove an 18-wheeler for various companies, traveling from the east to the west coast, from Canada to Mexico, and everywhere in between. By the early 2000's he drove for the multi billion dollar corporation, Olin,transporting ammunition between local plants, and to local vendors within the St. Louis metropolitan area. On February 12, 2010, Cedric married his high school sweetheart, Adrienne Reed - Oliver. Together they have one beautiful daughter, Crystal Rose, age 7, the youngest of Cedric's children. However, he has five older children for whom his heart beat just as fiercely: Joel Cedric Jr. (CJ), Breyon/Remani (Bro), Justin Case, Jessica Cereana, and James Christian. Additionally, he was blessed with three grandchildren.Cedric was a very loving son, husband, father, and brother. He enjoyed family time and was devoted to ensuring others were well cared for.In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Cedric's legacy continues through the lives of his mother, Florence, his siblings, Robert (Bobby), Nancy, John, Jonica (Cheryl), JaVon, Lenette, and Jeffrey, several siblings-in-law: Donna, Derrick, and David, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He joins his father, the Reverend John C. Oliver, in paradise.Visitation will convene Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Oakwood Church of God in Christ. Interment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery. Pastor Roosevelt Reed will officiate. Services entrusted to Harrison Funeral Chapel and Cremation Center of Alton. www.harrisonfuneralchapel.com
