Herman J. Rhine, 77, passed away at 8:30 am on Tuesday August 2, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on April 21, 1939 in East Waterford, PA, the son of the late John and Annie (Gloss) Rhine.
He married Sarah L. Reeder on December 10, 1966 in Alton. She survives.
He was honorably discharged from the us army receiving a high marksman award as an expert sharp shooter at Fort Gordon, GA. He was an inspector for Ford Motor Company until he retired in 1982. His love of cars followed him home as he was an avid race car fan both local dirt track and NASCAR. He was a C.B. operator known as “8 Ball”. Herman was an occasional hunter and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons Leroy (Tisha) Rhine of Alton and John (Tracy) Rhine of New Jersey; one daughter Ramona Rhine of Alton; a granddaughter Alexia Asaro; two grandsons Jeremey Rhine and Tyler Parker; a sister Arlene Grigsby; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Barry Rhine
Visitation will be from 2 pm to 4 pm Saturday August 6, 2016 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Funeral service will be at 4 pm Saturday August 6, 2016 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with Rev. Andre Dobson officiating.
A private family burial at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton will be at a later date.
