Zeddie N. King, 79, passed away at 12:47 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO, with his family by his side. He was born on August 27, 1937 in Alton, the son of the late Zeddie and Alyce (Tierney) King. He married the former Audrey Born on March 9, 1963 in Granite City and she survives. Other survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law: Doug and Melissa (Hellrung) King of Godfrey, Brad King of Godfrey, and two grandchildren: Elise King and Sophia King. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law; Barbara (King) and Donald Graves of Godfrey, and their children: Michael and Sue (Kelley) Graves and their children: Sarah and Jacob Graves; Pete and Heidi (Hicks) Graves and their children, Julia and Nolen Graves of Godfrey. He graduated from Alton High School and was a veteran with the United States Army. He attended Shurtleff College. Zeddie retired from Owens Illinois Glass in Godfrey. He was his happiest surrounded by his family. He so enjoyed his golfing days, particularly with his church family golfing on Saturdays. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a dear uncle, Daniel Tierney. In celebration of his life, a visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey. Pastor Jerry MeCaskey will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Evangelical United Church of Christ. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
