Yvonne Mier

Alton |

Yvonne Blanche Mier, fondly known as Gee-Gee and our angel on Earth, passed away peacefully on November 11th, 2023 at 11:07 am with her family by her side. Her passing was much like the last rose of summer, her essence gracefully fading, as she slowly and reluctantly dropped each of her lovely petals, but she kept her fun-loving spirit until the very end.

She was born on February 9th, 1937 as Blanche Yvonne to Hardy Wilson Duke and Daisy Gladys (Cummings) Duke at her Uncle Ebert & Aunt Stella Duke's home in Minor Switch, MO during the flood of '37. The youngest of six kids, her daddy called her "Daddy's Baby" and everyone else knew her as Yvonne. As a young adult, she moved to Oran, MO and worked at the International Hat Factory.

She officially changed her name to Yvonne Blanche when she married Benjamin Landon Mier on July 19th, 1955 in Arbor, MO. The two then moved to Texas, as he was stationed there with the Air Force. Their union created one child, Tamra La Don (Mier) Robertson, fondly known by Yvonne's father as "Daddy's Baby's Baby."

She leaves behind her beloved daughter: Tamra L. Robertson; her beloved grandchildren: Shawna Ruppert (her 2nd grandson - Rusty McDonough), Erin Ruppert (Larry Paul) Kyle Ruppert (her 3rd granddaughter - Stephanie (Reynolds) Ruppert); her great-grandchildren: Daisy Weathers (her Flower), Ally Suits (her Little Woo-Woo) (Maddi Walsh), (Krissi Poo) Krysten Ruppert (her hunk - Josh Martinez), Abby (dabby-doo) Ruppert (Steve Leitschuh), Wyatt McDonough (her Doctor) , Oliver Paul, Nolan Paul, Lauralye Ruppert, Abram Ruppert; step-grandchildren: Jordan McDonough and Bethany Westfall; and Daughter of the Heart, Sue McKinney and husband Kevin McKinney, and their sons Michael McKinney and Christopher McKinney; and her Little Man, Stormy the Cat. She also leaves behind the many friends of her grandchildren and great-grands that called her Grandma or Gee-Gee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Landon Mier; her parents Hardy and Daisy Duke; her sisters, Myrtis Burris, Frieda Matthews; her brothers, Jim, H.W., and Cletus Duke; and many friends and extended family members.

Yvonne lived her life in service to her husband and family, and she was dedicated to that job 1000%. After Bennie's retirement from GM, the couple enjoyed doing minor home repairs, rehabbing or repurposing furniture, ran a small lawn business, gardened, traveled, helped raise their three grandchildren, and loved to take the grandkids fishing. They loved yard sale-ing and having their own yard sales as well.

Yvonne was a big kid at heart. She loved playing games of all kinds, but Aggravation was her favorite and it could almost always be found sitting on the dining room table. She built elaborate Lego creations and made countless Barbie and baby-doll outfits for her daughter and granddaughters' dolls. She was the snappiest of dressers, and always made sure that every hair was in place and that her outfits were perfectly accessorized. She did the same for her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grands if they were going with her.

Most of all, she had a heart of gold. Her sun rose and set with her family. She loved unconditionally, she gave without expectation, and she always knew exactly how to make your day better. She was what we all need more of in this world today, complete and utter goodness, accompanied by an honest and loving soul that wanted nothing but happiness for everyone and everything around her.

She always told us that she loved us to the moon and back, and all the way around the world, and oodles and bunches, and heaps and gobs, from the tops of our heads to the bottoms of our feet and all in between. Well, Gee-Gee, we will always love you that much and more. To infinity and beyond, and a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17th, 2023 from 4-7 pm at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Private graveside services will be held at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Foundation.
