Wilma Jean Meyer, 78, died Wednesday, Februay 2, 2011 at Barnes- Jewish Hospital after a prolonged period of declining health.She was born in Calhoun County on July 8, 1932, the daughter of the late Arthur & Rosa (Cross) Angel. She was raised in the Michael vicinity, and she & her husband, Walter C. Meyer resided in the Calhoun County area for many years. It was after his passing on April 26, 1985, that she relocted to Grafton, then eventually to Jerseyville where she has remained. A cook for many years, she worked at the A&W Root Beer in Jerseyville for 28 years, and cooked alonside her daugher Judy at the Elsah Landing and lastly at the North State Street Restaraunt in Jerseyville before retiring.Surviving are a daughter & son in law, Judith & James Hughes of Grafton; two grandsons, whom she has raised since the death of her daughter, Emil Surratt & Benjamin Surratt both of Jerseyville; two sisters, Rosemary Roundcount of Kampsville, and Violet Becker of Michael; three brothers, Harvey Angel of Michael, William Angel of Jerseyville, and Gerald Angel of Farmington; and a step son, James Snider.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Hinson in 1953; a daughter, Carol Jean Surratt on Feb. 6, 1999; a step son, Kenneth Snider; two sisters, Hilda Simon and Pauline Moore; and two brothers, Earl Cross and Hamer Angel, as well as two brothers in infancy.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a prayer service will be read at 4 p.m.It was Wilmas wish to be taken "home", so a Mass of Christian Celebration will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Michael, with Father Don Roberts officiating.Burial will take place at the St. Anselem's Catholic Cemetery in Kampsville.Memorials may be given to a fund for her two grandsons, and may be given at the funeral home.
