William Vohs, age 87, passed away at 5:32 pm Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Chester Rehab and Nursing in Chester, IL.
He was born on May 17, 1925 in Alton, the late son of William A. and Stella (Haywood) Vohs.
Bill worked as a machinist for the Illinois Terminal Rail Road Company for over 30 years retiring in June of 1985. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II as a seaman in the South Pacific on the USS Chester. He was a member of the VFW and a former member of the 12th Street Presbyterian Church. He loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals and spend time with his family and friends.
Bill is survived by a sister Charlotte M. Meyers of East Alton, two nephews, Albert F. and (Debbie) Meyers Jr. and Thomas Meyers, two nieces, Estelle & (Billy) Vinyard and Marilyn & (Paul) Brumley, several great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. .
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, with Pastor Charles West officiating.
Burial will be at the Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton with military rites being preformed by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
