William Klunk

William Robert Klunk, 80, died at 5:45 a.m, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at his residence with his family at his side.

He was born in Richwood Township in Jersey County, Il. on Feb. 25, 1938, one of three children born to Raymond J. and Theresa (Wiist) Klunk.

He was a 1955 graduate of Jersey Community High School, and served with the US Navy from 1955 to 1959.  He was a proud veteran, and was a member of the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492 and the Robert Wendle Detachment of the Marine Corp. League.

Bill spent a majority of his working career in the insurance field, retiring from the Reliable Insurance Company, which was Rockford Insurance Company when he began.  In order to remain active, after his retirement, he became a courier for Tri Labs for three years.

He married the former Joan Sandra Davis on May 14, 1960 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, and together their 58 year journey has been blessed with three children, grandchildren and many, many special memories along the way.

Surviving are his wife, Sandy Klunk of Jerseyville; three children and their spouses, Christopher and Lynn Klunk of Grafton, Carla and Rick Murphy of Jerseyville, and Curt Klunk of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren, Brennan Klunk, Andrew Klunk, and his fiance' Abby McAdams, Jenna and Brandon Taylor, Emily Dotson, Rebecca Dotson, Joe Dotson, Ethan Klunk and CadenKlunk; four step grandchildren, Samantha Mitchell, Amanda Gillis, Cole Gutmann and Kylie Gutmann; eight great grandchildren and two more on their way; a sister, Patricia Harmon of Alton; and a brother, Raymond "Eddie" Klunk of Jerseyville.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Monday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father Martin Smith officiating.

He will be laid to rest in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville with military graveside rites conducted by the Tri County Honor Guard. 

Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to the Robert Wendle Detachment of the Marine Corp. League.
