William O. Angel, 79, died suddenly at 12:20 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013 in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.He was born in Calhoun County, IL. on Oct. 1, 1933, and was the son of the late Arthur & Rosa (Cross) Angel.A graduate of Hardin High School, CMSGT William O. Angel, retired from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia after thirty years of honorable service with the U.S. Air Force.  During his tenure, he was stationed at numerous places in Europe, as well as Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland and the U.S.A.  He served in the Air Force Communications Command as an air traffic control radar technician and a Navigational Equipment Technician.  He was the recipient of numerous awards and ribbons including the Air Force Commendation medal with the Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force outstanding unit award, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal with the Bronze Star, and various other awards for longevity and service.After retiring from the Air Force in 1981, he moved back to Illinois and worked for Olin Corp. for more than ten years.  He enjoyed being around his family, walking the hills of Calhoun County and gardening in Michael where he grew up.  After his wife's passing, he spent most of his time helping raise his youngest grandson.  He enjoyed a special relationship with his baby sister, Violet, and all of his wife's extended family.  He will be missed by all his grandchildren, daughters and sons in law.He married the former Alice Mae Lawler on June 14 1969 in Madison, Wi., and the two shared  36 years together and the joys of three daughters before her death on April 17, 2005.Surviving are his three daughters & sons in law,  Rhonda & Gary Thomas of Colonial Heights, Va, Chery & Joe Davis of Yorktown, VA., and Patricia Angel of Jerseyville; five grandchildren, Mitch, and his wife, Heather Davis of Christianburg, Va., Will Davis of Reston, Va., Katelyn Davis of Yorktown, Va., Spencer Thomas of Colonial Heights, VA., and William  Alan Meyer of Jerseyville; two brothers, Gerald Angel of Farmington and Harvey Angel of Michael; a sister, Violet Becker of Michael;four sisters-in-law, Geri Lawler of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Kathleen Lawler, Rosie Lawler, and Lucy Brown all of Madison, Wisconsin along with several nieces and nephews..In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Wilma Jean Meyer, Rosemary Roundcount, Hilda Simon and Pauline Moore; and two brothers, Hamer Angel & Earl Cross as well as two in infancy.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday.Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with full military rites being conducted by Scott Air Force Base.Memorials may be given to his family to assist with his grandson in care of the funeral home.
