William McMellon Boyd, 67, passed away at 5:27 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born on May 17, 1944 in Granite City, IL the son of Benton McMellon & Virginia Alvera (Conway) Boyd.
He married Jo Marie Cook on January 17, 1964 in Granite City. She survives.
William was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown and worked as a Boilermaker for Local 363. He enjoyed his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, traveling and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and loved to watch baseball on TV.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, he is survived by three children and spouses, Beth Anne & Jim Aljets of Staunton, William “Bill” & Brandi Boyd of Holiday Shores, and Rachel & Jonathon Rondi of Holiday Shores; eight grandchildren, Tanner, John & Lilly Aljets, Hailey & Sara Boyd, and Isabella, Corinne & Alaine Rondi; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph & Lois
Boyd of Holiday Shores, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marlene Bolling of Granite City and Judith & Mike Batson of Bunker Hill, a sister-in-law, Darlene “Jeanie” Boyd of Kansas City, MO, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Lee and Eugene Boyd.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, July 8, 2011 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, July 9, 2011 St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown with Pastor Dale Skeesik.
Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery
Memorials may be made to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.
