William Edward “Billy” McGrath, III, 71, passed away Monday, June 2, 2025 at his home.

Born Nov. 12, 1953 in Anchorage, AK, he was a son of John M. “Jack” McGrath, Sr. and Mary Ellen (Greenan) McGrath.

Billy joined the U.S. Army after high school and proudly served his country, making 52 jumps as a paratrooper.  He worked as a construction laborer for Laborers’ Local 42 in St. Louis.  He later worked with his dad as a manager for Jack’s Pawn Shop in Wood River.

He married his wife, Robin on Valentine’s Day, 2004 in Godfrey.  A kind and gentle family man, Billy loved his kids and grandkids.  He enjoyed visiting the zoo, relaxing in his back yard, fishing, and listening to blues music.  He also was a fan of the St. Louis Blues hockey team.

Survivors include his wife, Robin McGrath, daughters Candice (Jeremy) Clemons and Brittni Brooks, all of Alton; 10 grandkids, Jeremy, Jr., Tyler, Zachary, Madeline, Lorraine, Elijah, Daniel, Penelope, Noah, and Skyler; his mother, Mary Ellen McGrath of East Alton; and two sisters, Anna (Steve) Barr of Viroqua, WI and Mickie (Dave) McCool of O’Fallon, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father, John “Jack” McGrath, Sr. and his brother, John M. McGrath, Jr.
