William Joseph Howe, 81, died at 1:18 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 at his home. Born December 15, 1929 in Norman, Oklahoma, he was the son of William H. and Myrtle J. (Willcox) Howe. He graduated from the University Of Oklahoma School Of Engineering. While in college he was in the R.O.T.C. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He retired as an Electrical Engineer from the Olin Corporation after over 30 years of service and then worked at the Charles Melvin Price Support Center in Granite City until he again retired. Mr. Howe was a member of Brown Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. On November 26, 1955 in Alton, he married the former Norma Jean Saxby. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2007.
Surviving are three sons, Gregory L. Howe and his wife Marilyn of Cedarville, Ohio, Douglas P. Howe of East Alton, and Bradley A. Howe and his wife Beth of Turin, Italy, four grandchildren, Zachary, Abigail, Jessica, and David Howe, and one sister, Elizabeth A. Clancy and her husband Erin of Norman, OK.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Tuesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton until time of funeral service at 11:00 am.
Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to Brown Street Baptist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the United Methodist Village.
