William Harold Love, 94, died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born January 20, 1920 in Hannibal, MO, he was the son of Henry Clyde and Janey G. (Gunter) Love. Mr. Love graduated from Shurtleff College in 1940 with a degree in chemistry and he served in the United States Army during WWII as a chemical specialist, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He worked at the Owens Illinois Glass Works as a chemist prior to enlisting in the Army. Upon separating from the military in 1946, he returned to Owens Illinois and retired in 1981 from the O-I Tech Center operations in Toledo, OH as a batch plant engineer after 41 years of service. On November 1, 1942 he married the former Mildred Eileen Gentry and they celebrated their 71st anniversary together in November 2013. His wife preceded him in death on March 6, 2014. Surviving is a son, Greg Love of Godfrey, a daughter, Susan (Ken) Edington of Wauwatosa, WI, three grandchildren, Julie Edington, Chad Edington, and Dave (Karen) Edington, a great grandchild, Calie Lynn, and a brother, Ken (Ann) Love of Oklahoma City, OK. Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, baby Diane Love, a brother, Herb (Katherine) Love and a sister Lois (Harold) Rayburn. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.
