William F. Yeck passed away at 6:46 pm, Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Wood River, IL on December 7, 1927 the son of the late E.D. and Irene (Segrest) Yeck.
He married the great love of his life, Anne Ventimiglia in Alton at St. Patrick Church. She survives.
Bill served 2 years as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in Occupied Germany. He attended Lewis and Clark Community College and worked at Fischer Lumber Company for over 26 years before he retired. He was always very grateful for the kindness of Christopher Fischer. He was also the president of the Chamber of Commerce in Brighton, IL. He and other members of the commerce were instrumental bringing the dial tone system with Alton Bell Telephone to Brighton. He was an avid fan of many sports, especially football, baseball, and fishing. Bill also assisted Boy Scout Troop #7 and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Although they had no children, he and Anne enjoyed quality time with Anne’s great nephews, Timothy, Christopher, and Alexander Gent.
He is survived by a nephew, Danny (Donna) Sly of Godfrey; two sister-in-laws, Josephine Butkovich of Godfrey and Paula Muehling of Alton; and a brother-in-law, Tony (Edith) Ventimiglia of Alton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Sly, and a siser-in-law, Mary Long.
No visitation services will be scheduled.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday, October 27, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, IL with Father Shawn Monahan O.M.V. officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military rites will be conducted at Valhalla Memorial Park. Serving as Pall bearers will be Alexander Gent, Timothy Gent, Bob Gent, Chris Gent, Leonard Ventimiglia, Jeremy Muehling, Paul Muehling and Jack Strebel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church, Marquette Catholic High School, or please do a good deed for someone.
