William Miller
Alton |
William E Miller III was born to William and Lucille Miller on August 19, 1937, in Alton, Illinois. He was a graduate of Marquette High School. He graduated from what was then the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri with a degree in mechanical engineering.
After marrying Patricia McConnell, his mechanical skills led him to a job with General Motors in Indiana where his daughter Jennifer was born. He returned to Alton when he was hired at Anheuser Busch in Saint Louis and had three more children, Valerie, Elizabeth, and Daniel.
In 1969 his career with A-B took him and his young family to New Hampshire where he helped with the new brewery that was being built in nearby Merrimack. While living in New Hampshire he enjoyed visiting local historical sites and fishing and sailing at Lake Winnipesaukee and Cape Cod. When a new brewery was planned for Fairfield, California in 1975, the family headed west. That is where he met and married Sharon (Sherri) Miller and gladly welcomed her children Khelli, Robbie, and Andy into his now blended family.
After his retirement in 1994, he spent time fishing with friends and building furniture for the home he shared with Sherri and their beloved dog Skipper. He and Sherri also spent their time taking care of others, bringing family and friends together for wonderful backyard barbecues, pool parties, and memorable holidays. These memories are loved and cherished by the whole family.
Later in life, he met his longtime companion, Peggy Furst. Together they celebrated a love of travel and food, spending many weekends on Donner Lake and enjoying backyard parties with friends.
Bill was patient and good-humored through his illness, just as he was in his life.
He passed away on February 6th and is survived by daughters Valerie Miller and Elizabeth Abalos (Rick) and son Daniel Miller (Vilma), stepchildren Robert (Luisa) and Andrew Miller ( Stephanie), 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren as well as step-grandchildren with whom he formed a close bond. All who will miss him dearly.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery. Reception to follow.
