Wayne Watt

Wayne Watt passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at his home in Alton.

Son of the late Dewey and Myrtle (Ayres) Watt, he was born on May 25, 1944 in Alton.  Wayne married Ruth (Meyer) on August 15, 1964. They were married for 60 years. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Christine (Alfredo) Martinez of Aurora, IL, sons, Robert (Ronna) Watt of Jerseyville, Darren (Debbie) Watt of Wood River, and Stephen (Sheryl) Watt of Fairbanks, Alaska. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Alexandra, Megan, Corey, Julian, Lydia, Gabriel, Kaitlyn, Paige, Sam, Nicholas and Victoria, and five great-grandchildren. 

He was a devoted husband and father, who loved the outdoors, especially bow hunting.  He was a lifelong member of Salem Presbyterian Church and a longtime member of the Alton Moose Lodge. He owned and operated Wayne’s Barber Shop in the late 1960’s, then worked at Olin Brass for 31 years, retiring in 2004.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Elbert, Dorris and Joseph Watt. 

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, 2025 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate.  Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
