79-year-old Wayne Gerald Buttry, died April 8, 2013 at Provisions Living in Godfrery, Illinois.
He was born in Alton on August 1, 1933, to Vernal, and Alta (Hood) Buttry.
He married the love of his life, Marlene M. (Curry) Buttry on February 6, 1953. She passed away November 30, 2012.
Wayne was a self employed contractor/carpenter the majority of his adult life. He served as an alderman in East Alton from May 1, 1969 until he was elected Mayor of East Alton on May 1, 1986 until April 30, 1997 when he retired. Wayne was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling. His biggest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
Wayne is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: John (Linda) Buttry and Robert (Diane) Buttry. Two grandsons: Jessie and spouse Lani Buttry, and Brett Buttry, three great grandchildren: Hope, Dax, and Paisley Buttry, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Edwards and Barbara Spencer, and a brother Floyd Buttry.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday April 12, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday April 13, 2013 with Pastor Dan Powers officiating.
Burial will follow at the Upper Alton Cemetery.
