Wayne F. Brizendine, age 84, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at VIP Manor in Wood River, Illinois.
He was born on December 6, 1927, in Cedron, Missouri, the son of the late Newton F. and Amelia K. (Berger) Brizendine.
He married Veda R. (Fichtel) Brizendine, on May 13, 1961. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2004.
Wayne was employed as a technician at Jerry’s Tires in East Alton, Illinois. He was a member of Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton. Wayne and Veda loved traveling together all over the United States as well as to Hawaii and Germany.
Wayne devoted much of his life to Masonic and York Rite activities where he held many memberships and offices. Among them were Full Moon Lodge #341, Piasa Masonic Lodge #27, Franklin Chapter #8, Alton Council #3, Belvidere Commandry #2, Holder of KYCH, Holder of the Purple Cross, Eminent Grand Warden Grand Commandry State of Illinois, and York Rite College # 33 of North America.
Wayne is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael & Delores Brizendine of Bunceton, Missouri, and James & Annette Brizendine of Paducah, Kentucky; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine & Alvin Vanderhoof of Boonville, Missouri, and Bonnie & Lloyd Seifert of Ft. Scott, Kansas, and a brother and sister-in-law, Reverend J. Wesley & Genevieve Brizendine of Ozark, Missouri.
In addition to his parents and wife, Wayne was preceded in death by a sister, Marceline McCoy and brothers, Clifford and Glen Brizendine.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, with Masonic Rites Service at 7 p.m. at the Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, with Pastor David Burman officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Bethalto.
Memorials may be directed to Heartland Hospice, Brown Street Baptist Church, or Shriners Hospital.
