Wanda Hantla-Henesey

Wanda Darlene Hantla-Henesey, age 73, of Alton, passed away at her home with her family by her side on September 21, 2023. 

She was born in Litchfield on December 9, 1949, the only child of Fredrick O. and Edith (Nail) Hantla. She obtained a BS in Christian Education from St. Louis Christian College in St. Louis.  Wanda married Tom Henesey of Alton on January 15, 2011, immediately gaining 4 children and the title of Grandma.  She worked in the financial department for St. Anthony Hospital in Alton for 30 yrs, then for Touchette Regional Hospital in East St. Louis until retirement. She was a member of the Raymond Christian Church and Community Christian Church in Alton.  As a result of Wanda’s parents owning Raymond Bowl in Raymond, IL, she developed a love for the sport and became an avid bowler.  She and Tom enjoyed RV travels, especially when they would make their annual trips to Ludington, MI and Navarre, FL.  She was a lifetime St. Louis Cardinals fan and dearly love her “tiggers.”  Besides her husband, she is survived by children Mandy & Kurt Atkinson, Jaime & Jerry Dwiggins, Toby & Katie Henesey all of Alton, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving her are many cousins, chosen family Randy & Tammy Wagahoff, and lifelong friends Linda (Engleman) Broaddus and Donna (Fesser) Wade.  Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Jill Henesey.  Visitation will be Thursday, September 28 from 10 a.m. until the noon service at Community Christian Church, 2345 Union School Rd, Alton, IL. 62002, David Burger officiating.  A private burial for family and very close friends will follow in Asbury Cemetery in Raymond.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Community Christian Church or the 5 A’s Animal Shelter, both in Alton.  The family is being assisted by Hough Funeral Home in Raymond.  Friends may leave condolences online at www.houghfuneralhome.com.
