Walter H. Ruehrup, 92, passed away at 9:56 pm on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
He was born on January 22, 1920 in Staunton, IL, the son of William H. and Tina (Devries) Ruehrup.
Walter was baptized on April 20, 1920 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Staunton, IL. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive in 1933. Walter married his dear wife, Adele Westermann, at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton on November 23, 1952.
Farming was a part of Walter’s life until he and his brother, Delmar, opened RUEHRUP’S GARAGE in Bethalto on North Prairie Street.
Walter was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, where he and his wife, Adele, enjoyed participating in older adult activities.
Every other year Walter and his wife took automobile journeys throughout the United States making many friends as well as collecting many brochures.
Walter and Adele enjoyed several years of living at Villa Rose Retirement Community in Bethalto and Walter appreciated the fine care he received at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Walter will be missed by his many friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Delmar Ruehrup.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue from 10 am until funeral services at 11am at on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto with Pastor Mark Hofferber officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
