Vivian Fay Veltjes, 91, died at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Christian Frank Veltjes, 91, died at 3:03 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center.
They both died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident August 31, 2012 in Godfrey.
Vivian was born April 8, 1921 in Alton the daughter of the late Hershel and Lillian (Means) Williams. Christian was born December 15, 1920 in Godfrey the son of John and Susanna (Vahle) Veltjes. Christian served with the Army Air Corps during WWII and was retired from the Department of Defense. They were married June 28, 1941 in Alton, and recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Surviving are one daughter; Carolyn Sue Parkison of Olathe, Kansas and one granddaughter; Jeanice Nelson of Patterson, NY, three great-grandchildren; Elisa, Mark and Dakota, Christian is survived by one sister; Margaret Urekar of Staunton. Christian is preceded in death by two brothers; Lewis and Frederic Veltjes and a sister; Catherine Hickerson. Vivian was preceded in death by a brother; Orville Williams.
A visitation celebrating Chris and Vivian’s life together will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at GENT Funeral Home in Alton.
No funeral services are scheduled.
