Virginia R. Casper, 94, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Jerseyville Manor.
Born May 21, 1916 in West Frankfort, IL, she was the daughter of Sevil and Gertrude (Fisher) Dorris. She retired in 1977 as an elementary teacher in the Alton School District and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Alton where she served as a deacon. On December 10, 1938, she married James M. Casper. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1982.
Surviving are two sons, James A. Casper and his wife Janet of Alton, and Gary E. Casper and his wife Linda of Glendale, AZ, four grandchildren, Jon Casper of Fieldon, Jennifer Cope and husband Alan of Alton, J. Casper and wife Carie of Gosport, IN, and Josh Casper of Phoenix, AZ, five great grandchildren, Nikolas and Jakob Casper, James and Jagger Casper, and Erica Cope and a sister-in-law, Beulah Dorris of West Frankfort, IL. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Dorris. Private graveside services will be held at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Reverend Brett Hendrickson will officiate. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Adult Day Care. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
