Virginia E. Osterman, 85, died at 11:15 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
Born November 10, 1925 in Mulberry Grove, IL, she was the daughter of Bryan and Lenna (Hickey) Hurst. She worked for the Olin Corporation and later worked in the cafeteria at Eunice Smith grade school where she retired. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Alton Eagles Foe No. 254, and VFW Post 1308 Ladies Auxiliary. On November 21, 1942 she married John Osterman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2000.
Surviving are three daughters, Jean Osterman of Stafford, TX, Sue and Tom Lambie of Highland, CA, and Kim and Kent Schelle of Godfrey, three grandchildren, Pamela Lambie, Kelly (J.D.) Guadagnoli, and Corey Schelle, two brothers, Ralph and Dean Hurst, and one sister, Wilma Geisen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Russell Hurst, and three sisters, Beulah Shewmake, Nina Cox, and Olive Hurst.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
