Virgil W. Roady, 83, died at 6:47 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born July 14, 1929 in Jersey County, he was the son of Solomon and Sarah (Watson) Roady. He retired as a carpenter for J.C. Smith Construction Company in Godfrey and was a member of the North Alton Southern Baptist Church. On July 1, 1950 he married the former Doris Scates in Alton.
She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Schremp (Lester) of Barnhart, MO, and Judy Hicks (Russell) of Dow, one son, Jim Roady (Carlotta) of Alton, eight grandchildren, Jeremiah Hicks, Charity Wilson (Tim), Sara Price (Steven), Jason Schremp (Rachel), Valerie Combs (Nathan), Jenesa Maggart (Anthony), Brandon Roady (Tiffany), and Ian Roady, 10 great grandchildren, and two brothers, Solomon Roady (Audrey) of Brighton, and Joyce Roady of Granite City. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Roady.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Reverend Sonny Renken will officiate.
Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the North Alton Southern Baptist Church.
