Virgil L. Hosey, 72, died at 3:24 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, MO. Born June 6, 1939 in Alton, he was the son of Hubert Lee and Mayme (Mennemeier) Hosey.
He graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis, MO and Xavier University in Ohio and served in the Army Reserves. He retired in 2010 as an insurance underwriter for West Coast Life Insurance Company.
On April 4, 1964 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton, he married the former Sandra Peipert. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Kimberly Ann Brewington and her husband Ray of Parsons, KS, Monica L. Roberts and her husband Bill of Overland Park, KS, Michelle R. Peterson and her husband Reino of Coleraine, Minnesota, and Mary Ellen Bishop and her husband Jon of Pittsburg, KS, two sons, Kevin Hosey of Belton, MO and Jason Hosey of Parsons, KS, 18 grandchildren, and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Timothy M. Hosey and Christopher Hosey and his sister, Violet Lee Hosey. Mr. Hosey enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, going to craft shows and working on old houses.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Monsignor Kenneth Steffen will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to SS Peter & Paul School.
