Violet Lee Hosey

79-year-old Violet Lee Hosey of Godfrey died at 8:54 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.

Born December 8, 1930 in West Alton, MO, she was the daughter of Hubert Lee and Mayme (Mennemeier) Hosey.

Violet attended Shurtleff College and was a graduate of the Illinois School of Banking in Carbondale and the Madison School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. She worked for the First National Bank of Alton from 1948-1960 and then went to work for the newly opened Godfrey State Bank, retiring as Assistant Vice President. In 1996 she started cooking meals for the priests at St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was a member and a member of the Alter Society. In 2000, she began working as an auditor for the Bank of Calhoun. The position of cook and auditor were both to be on a temporary basis but she was still doing both until her death. She was an active member and served as Treasurer of the North Alton Godfrey Business Council.

Surviving is a brother, Virgil L. Hosey and his wife Sandra of Alton, six nieces and nephews, Kevin Hosey of Belton, MO, Kimberly Brewington and husband Ray of Parsons, KS, Jason Hosey of Parsons, KS, Monica Roberts and husband Bill of Overland Park, KS, Michelle Peterson and husband Reino of Coleriane, Minn and Mary Bishop and husband Jon of Pittsburg, KS, 18 great nieces and nephews and many friends in the banking and business community. She was preceded in death by her parents and two nephews, Christopher and Timothy Hosey.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Father Shawn Monahan, ONC will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be made St. Mary’s Capital Fund.
