Viola Jones

Viola “Vi” Mae Jones, 83, of Medora, passed away, on Monday, January 20, 2025, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born on January 23, 1941, in Jerseyville, the daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel (Mortland) Stone.

Vi had worked as a sorter for Ownes Illinois glass, owned and operated Lazy J Café in Bunker Hill, and was a bus driver for Bunker Hill School District. She was a member of Illinois Harness Horse Association, United States Trotting Association, and while never on the board she volunteered for the Chesterfield Township. Vi enjoyed her flowers, working in the yard, NASCAR, Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Cardinals, decorating for the holidays, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her companion Tom Cunningham of Medora, IL; three children Mike “Billie” Jones of Glenrose, TX, Amy Niehaus of Chatham, IL, and Tommy Cunningham of Medora, IL; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; brother Gerald Stone; several nieces and nephews.

Vi was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Marcie Best; siblings Geraldine Urban, Becky Miller, and James Stone.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton.

Burial will follow at Medora Cemetery.
