Vincent E. Stumpf, 83, passed away at 7:20 am on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at his home.
He was born on September 23, 1928 in Batchtown, IL, the son of Emil and Alice (Sackman) Stumpf.
He married Eva L. Friedel on May 7, 1955 in Brussels, IL. She survives.
Vincent served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for over 40 years. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and the Brussels, IL VFW Post #4686. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the farm with his son Paul and collecting coins. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Fran and Russell Gentry of Bethalto, Paul and Barb Stumpf of Edwardsville, Dave and Susan Stumpf of Bunker Hill, Dan Stumpf and his friend, Trudy Kaufman of Springfield; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Sanya Gentry, Staci and Steve Lawson, Amanda and Steve Bantle, Kyle and Michelle Stumpf, Natalee Voumard and her fiancee’ Matt, Shannon Stumpf, Jenni Stumpf and Jamie Stumpf; three great grandchildren, Kailynn, Sophia and Kenlee; a brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Ruth Stumpf of Godfrey; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and John Nolte of Brussels and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Tim Stumpf.
Visitation will be from 10 until a funeral Mass at 11 am on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Tom Liebler officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to the Brussels VFW Post 4686.
