Vincent A. Das, 82, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Born March 22, 1928 in Sialkot, Pakistan, he was the son of Prubu Issia and Iqubal (Massih) Das. He graduated from the University of Texas with a PhD in clinical psychology and returned to Pakistan to teach at and become the president of Murray College, Sialkot, Pakistan, a post which he held for 17 years. He was also the General Secretary of The Church of Pakistan and continued serving on various local and national committees of the Presbyterian Church USA in recent years. He was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church in Alton.
He met Norma Lee Bodenbach of East Alton while a student in Texas and they were married in Pakistan on December 23, 1961. His wife preceded him in death, passing away in Pakistan on August 3, 1986. He was a long time resident of Edwardsville, but had recently been staying with his son Neil in St. Louis, MO. Vincent is survived by three sons and their families: Dr. Lloyd Virgil Das of San Antonio Texas and his wife Dawn and their three children; Madeleine, Matthew and Emilie Das, Reverend Adrian Das of Godfrey, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and his wife Kelley and their three children; Andrew, Grace and Jack Das and Neil Das of St. Louis, MO, one brother, Vivian Das of Ann Arbor, MI and one sister, Veda Samuel of Lahore, Pakistan. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vena Lal Din and Venus Peter John.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Thursday. Reverend Charles Hoekstra will officiate.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
