Vernon Griggs

Vernon Griggs, 75, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009. Born November 6, 1933 in Reno, Arkansas, he was the son of Edgar and Nellie Christine (Creason) Griggs. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a member and past master of the Grafton Full Moon Masonic Lodge #341, and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Shriners Ainad Temple. In 1990 he retired from McDonald Douglas as a Technical Data Engineer after over 30 years of service. On May 27, 1955 in Parma, MO, he married the former Suzanne Young. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters; Gwen Kopsie and her husband Jeff of Bethalto, and Joy Arview of Bethalto, and five grandchildren; Eric Kopsie, Jessica Arview, Nicole Arview, Brett Kopsie, and Samantha Arview. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Leonard Griggs. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Monday. Pastor Eric Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.
