Verna Louise O’Neal, 93, of Cottage Hills, IL, died at 12:05 a.m. Sun. Mar. 30, 2014 at Bethalto Care Center in Bethalto, IL.

She was born Apr. 24, 1920 in Moro, IL to the late Fred J. & Katie (Bohland) Heeren.

On Jan. 2, 1951, she and Dennis C. O’Neal were married in Pine Bluff, AR.  He preceded her in death Dec. 6, 1974.

Verna had worked for Owens IL Glass and most recently as a custodian at the First Assembly of God Church of Cottage Hills for 25 years.  She was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God.  Verna loved music and playing piano.  She enjoyed genealogy and researching her family, finding her ancestors as far back as the 1500’s.  She also enjoyed traveling and seeing the entire U.S. by Greyhound bus.

Survivors include: 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis R. & Sharon K. O’Neal of Godfrey, IL and Thomas & Theresa O’Neal of Cottage Hills, IL, 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Beverly Schram of LaBelle, FL, Linda & Melvin Moore of Bethalto and Shirley & Don Wells of Alexandria, KY, 8 grandchildren, Gregory Guntrum, Kelly Penna, Erik O’Neal, Timothy Schuessler, Brian Schuessler, Daniel Staggs, Katherine Staggs & Elaina Staggs, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and extended family.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: a daughter, Mary Peppenhorst, 2 sons-in-law, Robert Schuessler and Pete Schram, a step-granddaughter, Amanda Webb and a brother, Raymond Heeren.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. on Wed., Apr. 2, 2014 at Cornerstone Church.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Church.
