Vanita A. Turcol, 73, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital, under the care of BJC Hospice.
Born May 26, 1937 in Datto, Ark., she was a daughter of Van and Goldie (Myers) Whitson.
She married Louis LaRue. Later she married Ray Turcol. They both preceded her in death.
Vanita worked as a CNA for 20 years before becoming a person assistant for “Help At Home”, where she worked for over 7 years.
Surviving are a son, Louis A. LaRue of Baytown, Tex.; three daughters, Trieste A. Robins and her husband Keith of Wood River, Kelly L. Campbell and her husband Bradley of Godfrey, and Vanecia R. Robins of South Roxana; three stepchildren, Darrell, Debbie and Leslie Turcol, all of Hillsboro; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; three sisters, Hilda Larson of Long Island, NY, Joyce Gasaway of North Little Rock, Ark., and Peggy Jenkins and her husband, Joe of Godfrey; two adopted sisters, Nixine Harpole of Bethalto and Recina Spinks of Missouri; and 8 nieces and one nephew.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant sister, Virginia Whitson.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where Pastor Randy Fisher will officiate services at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be at Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis.
Memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton, where she was a member.
