Ulus “Tennessee” Dawson, age 85, passed away at 2:03 pm Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Alton Rehab & Nursing in Alton.
He was born on September 5, 1925 in Gates, TN the son of the late Russell and Olean (Cleek) Dawson.
Ulus married Dorothy Mason on April 3, 1955. She survives.
Ulus served his country in the US Army during WW II. He retired from Owens IL Glass in 1983 after 32 years of employment. He then was employed at Walpert Properties for over 22 years retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Godfrey. He enjoyed drawing and astronomy. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, and two daughters; Dottie Campbell of Jacksonville, FL and Kristy and her spouse David Drury of Godfrey, IL. One son and his spouse Danny and Karen Dawson of Collinsville, IL. eight grandchildren; Travis, Amy, Darby, Brandon, Cydney, Abigail, Callie and Brent, eight great grandchildren; Evan, Presley, Autumn, Madeline, Logan, Laney, Keira and Remi, one sister; June Martinez of Halls, TN, and one brother Jerrell Dawson of Halls, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Sunday August 7, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be conducted on Monday August 8, 2011 at 1 pm, with the Rev. Tom Olney officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Gardens, in Godfrey, IL, with full military rites being preformed by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
