Tom Dean, Jr.—Dorsey

  Tom E. Dean, Jr., 67, passed away at 5:57 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at his home.

  Born Dec. 22, 1943 in Jerseyville, he was the son of Tom and Martha (Hodgerson) Dean.

  A Carrollton High School graduate, he worked as a computer operator at Olin Corp for 26 years, retiring in 1998.  He was a Dorsey City Trustee and a member of the Dorsey CIA (Community Involvement Assoc.) and the First Baptist Church of Bethalto.

  Tom was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.  His family was his whole life.  They include his surviving wife, the former Brenda Joyce “Joy” Garner, whom he married Nov. 30, 1963 in Roxana.  He is also survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie Dean and Dian and Scott Miller, all of Wood River; two grandchildren, Madeline and Jake Miller of Wood River; and a sister, Susan Carnes of Texas.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patsy Grosbauer.

  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where Rev. Chip Faulkner will officiate services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 15.

  Burial will follow at Zimmerman Cemetery in Dorsey.

  Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bethalto or Autism Speaks.
