Timothy Gerard Holmes, 51, died at 3:45 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2012 at his residence after a long battle with lung cancer surrounded by his family.He was born on Nov. 10, 1960, in Jerseyville, and was the son of the late Wilson & Cleo (Hazelwonder) Holmes.He served for many years in the United States Submarine Service, and was a U.S. Navy recruiter working out of the Alton recruiting station.  He then owned/operated a DISH Network Satellite TV business in the Alton/Jerseyville area for many years, retiring after being injured in a car accident in 2005.Surviving are his wife, Brenda Eileen (Briggs) Holmes of Alton; two sons, Lincoln Holmes of Jerseyville and Lucas Holmes of Alton; four daughters, Catherine Maykopet of East Alton, Heather, and her husband, Willie Grogan of Branson, Mo., Ciara Holmes of Alton; a step daughter, Jennifer Crull of Alton; two brothers, Paul Holmes of Tonnebonne, Oregon, and Terry Devine of Jacksonville; four sisters, Toya Borgfeldt of Jacksonville, Fl., Joann Thomas of Jacksonville, Fl., Sharon Holmes of Boston, Ma.,and Susan, and her husband, Don Breitweiser of Jerseyville; eleven grandchildren, twins, Payton & Jazlyn Gettings, Samantha Grogan, Brennan Maykopet, Gavin Holmes, Mason Holmes, twins, Lillie and Lannie Holmes, Gwenda Holmes,Cain Holmes, and Skylar Crull.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Warren "Bud" Crull.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville.Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites.In lieu of all flowers and plants, the Holmes family would greatly any acts of sympathy be directed in the form of memorials to the funeral home to help defray expenses.
