Thomas W. "Tom" Kiel, 53, passed away at 11:05pm on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at his residence. He was born on December 24, 1956 in Carlinville, Illinois the son of the former Barbara C. (Cerar) Kiel of Taylorville, Illinois and the late Bernard J. Kiel.
He married the former Marla McGibany on April 9, 2010, in Edwardsville, Illinois and she survives. Other survivors include two sons and daughters in law: Joshua and April Kiel of Godfrey, Illinois, Jeremy and Beth Kiel of Brighton, Illinois, two step - daughters: Brandie Ottwell of Cottage Hills, Illinois, Natasha Ottwell of Alton, Illinois, one step - son: T.J. Ottwell of Alton, Illinois, four grandchildren, one step - grandchild, two brothers and a sister in law: David Kiel of Taylorville, Illinois, Jim and Val Kiel of Elsah, Illinois, three nieces, two nephews, and several cousins.
He was employed at Laclede Steel in the rod mill and as a shop foreman for 23 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the North Side Assembly of God in Godfrey. He was an avid sports fan and he enjoyed hunting.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial visitation will be from 10am until time of memorial services at 12pm on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at North Side Assembly of God, 4836 North Alby, Godfrey, Illinois 62035. Rev. Gary Blanchard and Jim Kiel will officiate.
