Thomas Edward “Tommy” Kirchner, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Jersey Community Hospital.
He was born on October 3, 1957 in Carrollton, Illinois and was the son of the late Paul and Lorraine (Poore) Kirchner.
Tommy graduated in 1976 from Jersey Community High School. Soon after, he began attending and working at the Illinois Valley Rehab Center in Jerseyville. For the past 10 years, he has been attending and working for Challenges Unlimited in Alton.
Throughout the years, Tommy competed in the Special Olympics, he loved competing and it was one of his most favorite things to do. He also loved attending church camp every year. Aside from being with his family, his greatest love was wrestling. He never missed a match and collected wrestling figurines for years and had developed quite the collection - all of which he kept in their original boxes and proudly hung in his room.
Tommy was also a very religious man. He loved and believed in God unconditionally, and attended church at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville every Sunday. He loved his church family very much, and they all loved him as well.
Tommy never let his disabilities stop him from living a full and wonderful life. Whether he was competing, going down waterslides or traveling with his sister - Tommy did it all. His family was very proud of him and loved him with all of their hearts.
Tommy is survived by two sisters, Rhonda Manski of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Deanne Gimlin of Carrollton; four very special nieces: Amber Kirchner of Collinsville, Nicole Regula of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Brittany Lehr of, Pennsylvania and Cassandra Gimlin of Barnett, Missouri; along with his other nieces and nephews, Larry Lundahl, Cathy Gilman, Jeff Lundahl, Jason Rusch and Ryan Beiser; an aunt, Rita Poore of Hardin; along with many cousins and his fellow housemates at June Court.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Kirchner in 1997 and Cheryl Ann Kirchner at birth.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 2 p.m. until time of Funeral Services at 5 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the family, in care of the funeral home.
