Thelma Eileen Davis, 88, died at 12:02 a.m., Monday, December 7, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.She was born in Fieldon on Oct. 7, 1927, and was the daughter of William & Pearl (Cope) Briggs.She graduated in 1945 from Jersey Township High School, and in her earlier years, had worked as a telephone operator and as a secretary at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville.Thelma was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ, and Elizabeth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Kane.  She also enjoyed being a part of the Christian Kitchen Workers, where she would help prepare for many dinners as well as the Rotary Club.She married the love of her life, Charles E. Davis on Dec. 30, 1950 in Jerseyville, and together they raised their family in the rural area of Kane where they farmed, until 1998, when the moved into Jerseyville.  They were blessed with nearly 60 years of marriage before his death on March 31, 2010.Surviving her are her four children & their spouses, Paula Davis of Godfrey, Charles Edward & Debra Davis Jr. of Kane, Cynthina & LauranceMonckton of Alton, and Rick & Julie Davis of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren & their spouses, Joshua & Callie Davis of Kane, Jessica Rimbey of Kane, Matthew & Jodi Lynn of Bethalto, Katy Lynn of Jerseyville, Charles Davis of Chicago, Katherine Davis of Chicago, and Mary Claire Davis, a student at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb;  six great grandchildren, Blake & Reese Rimbey, Madilynn & Hannah Davis, Charlie Jane and Elliott Nicole Lynn; and three sisters, Grace Kanallakan of Jerseyville, Elsie Simpson of Winston-Salem, NC., and Marcella Lyles of Winder, Ga.In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul Briggs, Charles "Stormy" Briggs, William Briggs, and Morris Briggs; and two sisters, Betty Roberts and Barbara Lyles.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville, with Rev. Ted Engelsdorfer officiating.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville.
