Terry E. Feezel, Sr., 71, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at his home. Born Aug. 24, 1939 in Wood River, he was a son of Forrest Eugene and Dorothy Mae (Anthony) Feezel. The U.S. Army veteran retired as a mechanic for the Bethalto school district after 25 years.
Terry was an avid hiker of many trails and was a thru-hiker of the Appalachian Trail, which he completed at the age of 65. He was a Charter Member of the Appalachian Trail Museum and Life Member of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. He also was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.
Survivors include sons, Terry E. Feezel, Jr. and Mary powers of St. Peters, Mo., Alan R. Feezel of Wood River, Lance F. and Belinda A. Feezel of Godfrey, Michael P. Feezel of Houston, Tex., and Jason J. Feezel of East Alton; daughters, Laura L. and Ron Tovo of Aiken, S.C., Kathryn A. Feezel of Highland, Ind., Marcia M. and Marcelo Fernandez of Everett, Wash., Mary P. and Carl Meyer of Sandwich, Ill., and Terra R. Feezel and Adam Harris of East Alton; stepdaughters, Valerie D. and Richard Frank of Meadowbrook and Vanessa D. Myers of Worden; 12 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; one great grandson; a brother, Larry R. Feezel and Senea Worden of Clyde, N.C.; a half-brother, Scott E. and Becca Feezel of South Roxana; a stepbrother, Greg Harden of Bethalto; two stepsisters, Holly D. Adams of Rosewood Heights and Paula Jo and Richard Krukeberg of Bethalto; and his beloved friend and former wife, Regina L. Feezel of East Alton.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, where Reverend Daniel Decker will officiate services at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the Appalachian Trails Museum.
