Stokley Day Jr, 85, was pronounced at 2:20 pm, Saturday April 7 at his residence. He was born in Harlan County, KY on October 3, 1926 the son of the late Silas Stokley and Stella (Howard) Day. He married Gladys Kanallakan on May 3, 1947 in Alton, Il., they were blessed with over 64 years of marriage. She survives. He was owner and operator of Superior Auto Body in East Alton for over 45 years. He was a member of the Wood River Masonic Lodge #1062, the Alton Wood River Shriner’s Club, of which he was an avid Shriner and a member of the Tri-City Shrine Club. Stokley made over 102 day trips to Cincinatti and back to St. Louis for the “Road Runners” Shriners Hospital for Burned Children. He was also a member of the Community Christian Church. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, fishing and cars. He is survived by three sons and their wives; Dennis and Beverly Day of Grafton, Danny Day and Linda Crane of Wood River and Tracy and Denise Day of Alton, eight grandchildren, Erica Swagler, Candice Smith, Tiffany and Sara Burney, Hayley Day, Hanna Crane, Ian Crane and Christian Day, two great grandchildren, Olivia and Sydney Swagler, and two sisters, Audrey Roady of Brighton, IL and Lorretta Bailey of Baxter, KY. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Sherry Day; and two sisters, Lorraine Moore and June Roady. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL, with Masonic Rites to be held at 7:00 pm by Masonic Lodge #1062. Funeral service will be at 10 am Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with Pastor Troy Crain officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
