Stewart Alvin Antrae, 93 died at 10:30pm on Sunday April 15, 2012 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab. He was born in Fieldon, Illinois on January 12, 1919, the son of the late Elmer and Emma Andris Antrae.
Although he grew up during the Great Depression years, he attended 8 years of grade school at Lone Star School west of Fieldon. Continuing onto high school, Stewart had the unique experience of being a graduate of 3 different High Schools. He graduated from a one year high school in Fieldon, IL, a two year high school in Hardin, IL and finally completed his fourth year as a member of the Jersey Township High School Class of 1937. Stewart served 4 years as a Medic in the US Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was employed at Industrial Pyrometer & Supply Company in Alton, IL for 25 years and continued to operate his family farm west of Fieldon, IL.
Stewart was confirmed and participated as an active member of the Fieldon United Church of Christ for many years. Upon leaving the family farm in Fieldon, he and his wife joined Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville. Stew and Emma delivered Meals-on-Wheels thru the Church for many years. He enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues. Stewart was also a member of the Jerseyville American Legion, the VFW, Loyal Order of the Moose and the Fieldon Masonic Lodge.
He married Emma Jane Breitweiser on October 9, 1965 and they shared almost 47 years of marriage, prior to her death on April 8, 2012.
Stewart is survived by a nephew, Ronald and Merry Geisler and a niece, Brenda and Terry Murphy. His extended family includes two Sister-in-laws, Marjorie Beiser of Jerseyville and Mary Frances Breitweiser of Wood River, a Brother-in-law, Herbert Breitweiser, nieces; Luann Breitweiser, Vicki (Dennis) Williams, Becky Beiser, Connie Breitweiser, Linda (Eldon) Schaake, Beth (Dennis) McGlasson and nephews; Donald (Susan), Ronald and Ross (Michelle) Breitweiser.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Antrae, his parents and his sister, Marie Geisler Edwards.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Theodore Engelsdorfer officiating. Interment following at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, Military Graveside Rites by Jerseyville American Legion Post #492
Memorials may be given to Peace United Church of Christ.
