Stephen Farkas

Stephen “Steve” Farkas, age 90, of Godfrey, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015. He had been living at Provision Living at Godfrey.

He was born December 7, 1924, in Melvindale, MI, the son of Steve and Elizabeth (Tamas) Farkas. He married Marcella Lorsbach on November 25, 1950, and she preceded him in death on December 14, 2014.

Steve was a WWII veteran who served overseas in Oahu and Japan. Before retiring, he had worked for Millers Mutual Insurance. For years, Steve enjoyed square dancing with his wife, as well as refinishing furniture, walking at the mall, and reading. His greatest joys were being with his kids, grandkids, his family, and traveling. In the last few years, watching Cardinal games was his favorite past time. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Laura Farkas of St. Louis, MO, Susan Ruckman of Godfrey, and Teresa and David Wagner of Johnstown, OH; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kim Farkas of Godfrey; eight grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Jenny, Jared, and Tyler Ruckman, David, Benjamin, and Noah Wagner, and Zach and Molly Farkas; a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Lynn Ruckman; a sister-in-law, Lois Lorsbach of Hardin; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Marcella; he is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dr. Eugene Farkas.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 11, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Friends may also visit prior to the funeral service, Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10:00 am in the funeral home chapel.

Burial will take place in St. Norbert’s Cemetery in Hardin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
