Stanley R. Butler

Stanley R. Butler, 83, passed away at 1:18 a.m. Sunday, February 13, 2011at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. Louis. Born May 24, 1927 in Newport Tenn., he was a son of Benjamin and Julia (Hurst) Butler. The U.S. Army veteran was a carpenter for Laclede Steel until his retirement in 1987.
He married Roma J. Heath Feb. 23, 1961 in East Alton. She passed away Oct. 4, 2006.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Phil Buker of O’Fallon, Mo.; a son, Russell Butler of Bennington, Neb.; 4 grandchildren, Heath, Luke and Holly Butler and Joey Reichard; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Susie and James Taylor of Powhatan, Va. And Joan and Ralph Fine of Newport, Tenn.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Clara “Amalee” Butler, Dorothy Clevenger, June Butler, and Gail Caldwell; and four brothers, Ray, Oscar “Nig”, Eugene, and Bill Butler, and a son, John Butler.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 16 at the Bethalto Church of God from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. Pastors Tony Latham and Tim Campbell will officiate.
Interment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors by Alton VFW, Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to the Bethalto Church of God, New Vision Church in O’Fallon, Mo., or the Alzheimer’s Assoc.
