Silvio "Dud" Finn

Silvio “Dud” L. Finn, age 96, passed away, at 3:25 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at West County Care Center in Ballwin, MO.



He was born in Hermansville, MI on March 12, 1914, son of the late Giuseppe & Maria (Diquigiovanni) Fin.



He married Isabelle A. (Sharpe) on May 16, 1953 in Gillespie, IL.  She passed away November 25, 1991.



Dud was a graduate of Rankin Tech School in St. Louis, MO.  He served the U. S. Army from 1943-1945 in 79th Infantry and 813th Tank Destroyer divisions in Europe during WWII. He was employed at Owens Illinois Glass Co. as a mold maker for 43 years, retiring in 1979.  Dud was a member of St. Matthews where he was active in the men’s club and managed the boy’s baseball team.  He then became a member of St. Mary’s after the closing of St. Matthews.  He was a member of the Alton Eagles F.O.E. 254 and the Alton VFW Post 1308.  He enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, and spending time with his family and friends.



He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron & Lynn Finn of Torrance, CA and Rory & Mary Beth Finn of Ballwin, MO; four grandchildren, Brian, Madeline, Samantha and Jamie Finn and numerous nieces and nephews, that he loved very much.



He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and six brothers and sisters, Geno Finn, Rita Nasello, Alice Gentelin, Mario “Pete” Finn and two infants, Leno and Lena Finn.



Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.



Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton, with Father Shawn Monahan O.M.V. celebrating.



Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, in Alton.



Memorials may be given to the Memory and Aging project at Washington University
