Silas Short

Silas Dale Short, age 92, of Alton, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.He was born April 3, 1924, in Jersey County, the son of Clinton James and Verna (Ray) Short. He married Clara Faye Loy on July 7, 1947 in Jerseyville, and she survives.Silas was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Wood River, where he served as an Elder as well as a trustee. He was a member of the Wood Carver’s Guild. His greatest joy was taking vacations with his family.In addition to his wife, Clara Faye; he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Short and Linda Morrow of Gatlinburg, TN, and Daniel Short of Wood River; two grandchildren and their spouses, Clinton and Chandra Short of Wood River, and Tonya and Chris Kendall of Granite City; four great-grandchildren, Caleb and Ethan Kendall, and Kiele and Klarissa Short; his church family; and many other friends.He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Edna Mae Jeffers.Visitation will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:30 am at United Pentecostal Church in Wood River with Pastor Lee Jackson officiating.Burial will take place in Wanda Cemetery.Memorials may be made to United Pentecostal Church of Wood River, or BJC Hospice.Elias, Kallal and Schaaf  Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.Condolences and online register book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com.
