Shirley Wiemers

Shirley Wiemers, 80, passed away at 10:45 pm, on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton, IL. 

She was born on August 14, 1931, in Wood River, IL, the daughter of Everett D. and Maxie “Maxine” R. (McKinney) Rich. 

She married William Oscar Wiemers on December 9, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.  He preceded her in death on June 15, 2001. 


Shirley graduated from East Alton / Wood River High School and was supervisor at the Madison County Employment and Training Center.  She served as past chairman of the East Alton Heart Fund Campaign and was active in the Alton Area City Council of Beta Sigma Phi.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William Michael and Janet Wiemers of Bethalto; two daughters and a son-in-law, Vicki and Chris Sawyer of Alton and Wendy Boner of Bethalto; her grandchildren, Aaron and his wife, Kara Wiemers of Bethalto, Dustin, Joshua, Jeffrey and Kelsey Boner all of Bethalto; her siblings and their spouses, Geraldine Bernice “Jerry” and Dale Thompson of Bella Vista, AR, Doris Jean Stone of Alton, Frank Dale “Bub”
and Joan Rich of Alton, Janet Sue &  Terry Primas of Duke, MO, David Joe and Linda Rich of Moro and  a sister-in-law, Patty Rich of Rosewood Heights and her nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, JoEllen Wiemers, a grandson, Lucas Wiemers and a brother, R.B. Rich. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be at 10 am on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Lori Schafer officiating. 

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. 

Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ in Midway and or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
