Shirley Marie Johnson, age 69 of Wood River died at 7:30 pm on Friday, October 22, 2010 at her residence. Shirley was born in Granite City on November 10, 1940, the daughter of Iva (McBride) Lewis of Roxana and the late Norman Lewis.
She worked for Shell Oil Co. in Wood River and Trans-Supply Inc. in East St. Louis and was a member of the Wanda United Methodist Church.
On February 2, 1962 she married Claude Allen Johnson at the Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in South Roxana and he survives. Also surviving is a daughter; Jayne Simmons and her husband John of Alton, a son; Allen Johnson and his wife Dianna of Wood River, six grandchildren; Kinley and Zachary Johnson, Megan, Hailey, Jesse and Luke Simmons, two brothers; Jerry Lewis and his wife Bernadette of Elmhurst, IL and Dr. Darrell Lewis and his wife Dr. Lori Lewis of St. Louis, a sister; Jean Malone and her husband Rev. David Malone of East Alton, nieces and nephews; Michael Malone, Kelly Pirtle, Erica Lewis, Kyle Lewis, Shaylee Lewis, Conor Lewis, Hayden Lewis and Bennett Lewis.
Besides her father she was preceded in death by her grandparents; Ernest & Fannie Bell McBride and Walter & Izzetta Lewis.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 8:00 pm on Sunday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Monday with Rev. Gary Mosimann and Rev. Gerald Savage officiating. Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. Memorials may be given to the Wanda United Methodist Church.
