Shirley Lee Gardner, 71, passed away at 4:08 am Saturday, July 17, 2010 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on August 22, 1938 in Madison, IL, the daughter of Edna Lee (Smith) Evans Rainey & stepfather, Robert Rainey of Greenville.

Shirley married Charles Gardner on September 7, 1956 at Highway Tabernacle in Granite City. He survives.

She was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of the Bethalto Church of God for over 10 years and she loved traveling.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children and their spouses, Allen & Karla Gardner and their children, Tyler and Travis Gardner of Ignacio, CO, Cheryl & Stan Hibbard and their children, LeeAnne Hibbard and Amy & Chris Lackey all of Worden and a daughter-in-law, Annie Gardner and her children, Jessica and Chuck Gardner of Alpine, CA; three great grandchildren, Desmond Gardner, Paylee Gardner and Leona Gardner; one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis & Edmond Willis of St. Louis, MO; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald & Betty Rainey of Shrevesport, LA; two sisters-in-law, Lana Rainey of Greenville and Betty Johnson of Granite City and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, a son, Terry Gardner, a brother, Evan D. Evans, a sister, Nancy Evans and a brother, Bobby Rainey.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Bethalto Church of God. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the church with Rev. Jeremy Robinson and Rev. Tim Campbell officiating.

Graveside service at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Greenville, IL at 2 pm.

Memorials may be made to the Bethalto Church of God Building Fund.
